The molecular mechanisms underlying the evolution of a complex morphology

How genome divergence leads to the evolution of complex morphologies? We address this question by studying the genetic, molecular and developmental mechanisms underlying the evolution of male genitalia in Drosophilids. Using single-cell genomics we aim to identify genes and regulatory sequences that underly the morphogenesis and evolution of these complex structures.
